How do I become an Electrical Apprentice?

Apprenticeships are a good way into the electrical profession for school leavers and young people up to the age of 21. Apprenticeships are government-run training schemes, and comprise both on-the-job training, workshop practice and classroom theory. The theory-based learning is supported by the practical skills needed in the workplace.

Typically apprenticeships take between 1-3 years of on-the-job training and day release at college. In the fourth year the candidate completes a site-based NVQ log book and an AM2 practical test. Apprentices can expect to be paid the National Minimum Wage, but many employers pay more than this, with some apprenticeships earning £170 per week net.
