This 1-day course provides guidance on the design, erection and management of temporary power systems.

It provides delegates with a clear understanding of the application of both BS7671 and BS7909 to events and other relevant industry guidance.

It will help all those working with any temporary power system including agricultural shows and outdoor fairs, concerts, theatrical events, film and TV broadcasting, exhibitions, festivals as well as temporary buildings.

Target Audience

The course is suitable for electrical engineers, electricians and technicians who  need to know the requirements for temporary electrical installations and anyone who requires a greater understanding of these types of installations.  Candidates must hold a current 18th edition qualification.

The course is modular providing both theory and practical demonstration.

Course Content

  • What is a temporary electrical system.
  • What is BS 7909 and what does it cover.
  • The relationship of BS7909 and other standards e.g BS7671
  • Management arrangements and responsibilities
  • Planning and procurement of electrical equipment
  • Explanation of ‘small/simple’ and ‘large/complex’ events
  • The requirements for cables and connectors
  • The requirements for earthing and bonding
  • The requirements for RCDs
  • The importance of maximum earth fault loop impedance values
  • How cables and switchgear etc should be protected against damage
  • How circuits should be identified and isolated
  • Guidance on Inspection and testing and the requirements for documentation
  • Completion of certificates and schedules of test results.
  • During the course the inspection and test requirements will be demonstrated.

Location

This course will take place at Tring.

The course can also be run at a clients venue where there will be a requirement for a white board/flip chart and a screen.
