A 1-day course designed for kitchen fitters and allied trades who are required to understand the requirements for electrical installations in domestic properties.  Includes kitchens, bathrooms and similar installations.  This is a introductory course which does not qualify candidates to formally approve installations in accordance with Part P of the Building regulations, however it does give an insight into the requirements and valuable practical tuition.

This course is suitable for those installers overseen by a Qualified Electrical Supervisor and can be tailored to suit individual and company requirements.

Part 1 – Morning

An introduction to the statutory requirements for safety

  • The Electricity at Work Regulations 1989 (relevant)

Non statutory guidance

  • BS7671 2008 – Wiring Regulations (relevant)

Safe Isolation

  • Isolating, Locking off and Testing for dead

Safe use of Test equipment

  • GS38
  • Approved Voltage Indicators

Electric shock prevention

  • Basic Protection
    o Barriers and Enclosures – minimum standard
  • Fault protection
    o Automatic disconnection of supply

Plug Top Fuses

  • BS1361
  • Sizes
  • Wattage

Single Phase Supplies

  • Live conductors
  • PE (Protective Earth) conductors
  • Testing for voltage present
  • Functional Tests

Multiple Choice Test Paper

Part 2 – Afternoon

All candidates:

  • Will carry out safe isolation and identify isolator components
  • Will wire flexible cable into a FCU (fused connection unit)

Candidates will receive a PTT certificate of attendance.
